What a unique personality, I was really glued to the screen for most of the movie, who knew so much detail could go into such a simple looking dish such as sushi. I don't think I'll ever look at food the same way. Kinda feel bad for his son for having to fill such big shoes, seems though like he's doing a great job Jero Dreams of Sushi - Master one craft in your life. Become the top#1 in the world - Taste and smell food as best you can, you're missing out - strive for constant improvement. There's no such thing as perfect Dvir p.s. wonder when I'll have the chance to visit this restaurant!

**** CONTAINS SPOILERS **** I'm wondering why there are no other Reviewers who have commented on this film's disgusting display of mass slaughter of our sea creatures by the Japanese. I had to turn this movie off half way through. It was so horrible to get a glimpse into those seafood markets where there are massive amounts of beautiful sea creatures captured and held in plastic bags and nets only to be auctioned away for slaughter. This reminded me of a animal rights documentary showcasing how the Japanese are destroying our oceans and the creatures that swim within them. I'm so sad that such pressure is put on Japanese sushi chefs to find the absolute best meat and to serve it at the highest price. This has produced a culture that lives and breathes off the mass slaughter of our ocean's inhabitants, and quite frankly I think it needs to be stopped. Really disgusted.

Cinematography, music, visual metaphors, story, all are top notch. It's more motivational than any sports movie you would've ever seen. Jiro's philosophy and work ethics are incredible. Truly, a remarkable piece of work.

The overall tone, the precise editing, the understated drama, and moreover the FOOD! I never fail to watch this that I'm not moved, inspired, and left HUNGRY.

The power lies in simplicity. Not just with sushi, but with this documentary also. Very simply produced. The focus is on the chefs and their sushi. I did not believe I could enjoy this film as much as I did, but somehow it touched me really deeply. I could watch it a second time the day after I first watched it with the same wonder and awe. That's rare.

A great feel-good documentary. The film succeeds in bringing forward an inspiring story of success. It's a good thing the film also focuses on Jiro's succession, but some deeper personal digging into the mystery Jiro still is after watching instead of focusing almost solely on his weighty philosophy, could justify the title some more. I had the feeling that the director didn't really have a very cohesive and logic narrative in mind throughout the whole mid part of the film, and that the reorganization of some scenes could have provided a more intricate and seamless narrative structure. What I thought was particularly great about seeing this movie from a European perspective was that it made me genuinely inquisitive and interested in this unknown Japanese culture.

What a great documentary. Jiro is a wonder. He is what all of us should aspire to be. A man who has worked to perfect his craft for almost his entire life. Very humble, respectful, respected-idolized even. A powerful message that seeking perfection is a wonderful thing. Always try to be better and do better. I firmly believe that is what keeps him going. I know some people that are in their fifties that look older than this man! I have always been interested in Japanese culture and manners. Very interesting to see in a different light. Watching him with his sons is really intriguing also. You can tell that this documentary helped Jiro say things that he probably never would have had there not been a camera. The only downside to watching this is, of course, one will crave sushi.
