I wasn't familiar with Aisha Brown, but I've been on a stand-up comedy kick lately and decided to give this special a try. The title seemed kind of pithy and ripe for comedy. Unfortunately, I didn't find her material funny or unique. Most of the jokes were pretty generic, like they could have been written and/or delivered by pretty much anyone. There was also a certain awkwardness to the whole special because the live audience was fairly small and they weren't exactly roaring with laughter, which essentially dampened the mood like a reverse-laugh-track. There was nothing particularly shocking or offensive; it was just kind of boring.

When I sat down here in 2023 to watch the 2020 comedy special "Aisha Brown: The First Black Woman Ever", I had actually never heard about it, nor had I ever heard about Aisha Brown. All I knew was that it was a stand-up comedy special that I hadn't already seen, and thus I opted to give it a chance. Turns out that Aisha Brown's sense of humor didn't really correspond well with mine, since I had no laughs throughout the course of the 42 minutes that the show ran for. I was brought to a very slight chuckle twice throughout the course of her show, and that was it. So "Aisha Brown: The First Black Woman Ever" wasn't really something that tickled me the right places. It should be said that Aisha Brown definitely shows a good amount of self-confidence on the stage as she delivers her material, and that helped to make the show all the more watchable and bearable to sit through. I am sure that there is an audience out there for a show such as this. I just wasn't a part of that particular target audience. My rating of "Aisha Brown: The First Black Woman Ever" lands on a four out of ten stars.
