Nice 👍👍 movie not because of the sex and the action but the storyline. And what halle did on screen with Billy Bob Thornton was unbelievable and mind-blowing

This is one of the worst films I've ever seen. The acting is atrocious except perhaps for Billy Bob's son & father. Halle is a joke. It's an embarassment for a real-actor Denzel Washington to get an award the same night in that "history making moment." Basically she screams a lot and shows her *. And for a real laugh check her out trying to act like an actual southern struggling black woman in the drunk/first-time-with-Billy-Boy scene. And Billy Bob isn't much better. The sex-scenes are gratuitous and not even hot (even with Halle's body or the hooker). I can only assume Hollywood was on crack for even considering awards for this movie.

I finally got around to seeing this film, and what a disappointment. The love this film received from critics and the Academy is completely unwarranted, yet its understandable on some level. Seems like films that display any sort of racial progress and highlight actors of "color" get positive reviews regardless of they quality of filmmaking. There is no better example of this than "Monster's Ball". Halle Berry's performance was fine, but there are some issues with her being cast in a role like this. She's too thin and attractive, and frankly she looks too white to be believable in such a role. Are we really supposed to believe a woman that looks like her gave birth to an obese child? So, I was conflicted as to whether BBT's character finally saw the errors of his ways and now loves black folk, or whether Halle Berry was so hot, he couldn't resist her. These are just some of the many issues with this film. In short, its another example of political correctness trumping Art.

This movie feels so unnecessary. None of the themes, like racism, social alienation and family drama, are treated in the compelling way they were meant to be treated. Nowhere do you get involved in this story, foremost because of it's having been told more naturally, more honestly and more clearly in scores of other movies. Actually, this is not a story about racism, I feel. It is more the story of a screen writer who fell short of material and felt that racial prejudice would still hold that sting which could inject some much-needed drama into his lifeless listing of human misery. The acting is the second domain where the film doesn't deliver. Billy Bob Thornton is his usual charismatic, smug, and somewhat uninvolved self. Halle Berry did nothing that would change my judgment after seeing her in Die Another Day. She has a very forgettable screen presence and I fear any appearance alongside one of her more energetic (female) colleagues would put a premature end to her career. Also, Miss Berry was hopelessly miscast for this role. She is much too clean and well-groomed to make us believe she is the wife of a criminal on death row and waiting to be expelled from her apartment for want of money. Look, if this was Alfre Woodward, the Oscar would be fully justified. But now it looks like a misplaced political gesture. All in all, Monster's Ball will probably be long forgotten when people will still view the likes of In The Heat Of The Night as an important document on racism.
