Even if you don't collect comic books, this documentary is worth a watch. It shows how much work goes into running a niche store, and how much it is appreciated by the customers. A feel-good documentary that doesn't celebrate the mistreatment of big cats.

Checked out this documentary about mu favorite type of brick and mortar store, the comic book shop. As a comic book nerd since the mid 80s (flipping through and buying x-men/wolverine comics off the spinning racks at the grocery store to gaming and buying comics at a now defunct comic shop where I began playing Magic the Gathering, D & D along with other tabletop RPGs at. When Daddy Jim of Daddy Jim's comics passed away I gravitated to Greensboro's best shop Acme Comics. I have stayed a loyal customer there since then. When my daughter (now eleven years old) was born started heavily collecting and collating high grade ungraded runs for myself and also resell) She spent her early childhood crawling around the store and running around like a crazy lady. She has her own little collection of comics, graphic novels and more recently Japanese manga! The one common thing that has never changed is the friendly face/human encyclopedia that is Lord Retail helping with great recommendations for things he knows I would enjoy, helping point out titles he thinks I would do well speculating on. Ordering extra copies of things for ne by request/holding things like variants he knows I would want, getting me retail incentive variants from retailer meetings/events/etc. One thing not pointed out (that may have happened after time of recording) Jermaine is no longer the manager at Acme, he is now the first black owner of a comic book store in Greensboro, NC, another is next door they had a sister store called Acme comic Presents carrying mostly toys (Transformers, Funko Pops, shirts, posters, etc) but now it has merged into the Acme Comics shop. Outside of the focus on my favorite store it was cool seeing more insights into other stores and the struggles/reasons they stay open. If you enjoy comic books 8/10 even if there are no crazy reveals that you would not know if you already are friendly with your LCS and hang around them regularly but if you have no interest in comics I would probably pass.

I might be a little biased as I'm included within this documentary, but My Comic Shop Country will definitely give you a look at some of the colorful characters who own comic book stores, things they deal on the business side, and just shows the love for this medium / industry that has to exist to have a successful comic book store!

This is a fantastic documentary that goes beyond the day-to-day operations of a comic shop and explores the relationships and friendships that these stores can create. If you've ever been curious about a comic book shop but reluctant to enter, check out this documentary! Expand your horizons!

If you've ever collected comics and been inside of a comic shop, then this movie will have something for you. If you're not into comics, this is a story about community and geeks enjoying what they love and that can be universal. Lots of great info about how the comic shop industry works (direct from shop owners but also distributors and creators as well), some humor and lots of heart.
