I, like many, am convinced that had Tesla's final years and works not gone "missing" from room 3327 the world would be an entirely different place. What would a world where electricity was not an expensive resource but an economically available human right look like? No wars for or dependency upon oil, little pollution, and this had been available to us 80yrs ago, before WW2. This movie does not reflect on the possibility of that world or focus much attention upon the perhaps the greatest genius of the three main protagonists that are the subject of the movie. Many of the reviews here are critical of the lack of focus on Tesla. But there is a fundamental question we must consider here: does a movie fail to entertain because we disagree with the accuracy of facts within? Are we rating this movie solely on historical accuracy? If so, we need to be wary. History is our perception of what occurred based upon the slanted perceptions of those who recorded those events. And even then only a tiny fraction of the events over decades combined of these mens lives are presented in just over 100 minutes. How much accuracy can one truly expect? This is a movie intended to entertain, not a scientific journal. Or should we acknowledge the director chose to entertain us within the aesthetic of a compelling story told in costume, on sets, by actors with fabricated dialogue, in such a way as to grip our attention and spark our emotions? My rating is on the latter. Wonderfully acted by the two main leads with a stellar supporting cast, an excellent score, and a flawless look with excellent editing.

When a movie says it attempts to tell a story based on fact then diverts into mediocrity and supposition, all viewers and people exposed to such fabrications must critically evaluate the worth of the film in the context of informing accurately and thus, this film does not pass any smell test. To portray the Current war (DC vs. AC current) as between Westinghouse and Edison is completely disingenuous and openly falsely redesigning historical record. JP Morgan and the Rothschilds banking criminal cartel barely rate a mention and therein is the hidden hand that entirely shaped the entire premise of the synopsis of the "free energy" record that SHOULD have been the story of the Current War. Poor attempt to re-write history.

Complete and utter misrepresentation of history..Where Is Tesla?...Not one mention of all the magnificent work done by the real scientist Nikola Tesla. The other characters were American businessmen...Shame on the producers of the trash.

This movie minimizes the role of Nicola Tesla to the point that you would forget he has no effect on the AC and motors or anything at that time

If there was a movie about one man who wanted to help humanity, help people, then it should be Nikola Tesla.....not these two bozo thieves.

The reviews for "The Current War" make me tired. This is NOT the story of Nikolas Tesla. This is, in fact, an accurate depiction of Westinghouse vs. Edison and the AC vs. direct current. As far as what I've read, the story, though a dramatization, is a decent telling of this. Reviews here say oh, Tesla got the short end of the stick. Yes, he did, and the movie certainly indicates this. And by taking the focus off of him, one certainly sees that yes, he was an unsung hero. But the story is about Westinghouse and Edison fighting for AC vs. DC. If you want to do a story about Tesla, make your own movie. This is NOT about the invention of the AC. Hello. Another criticism of this film is that Edison is shown as a victim. I don't know if that was the intention, but if it was, they missed. I certainly didn't think he was a victim. Yes, there was a great tragedy in his life, but he was pretty darned ruthless when it came to trying to destroy Westinghouse. Ruthless and unfair. He was that way in many of his business dealings, including going up against the Lumiere brothers in the invention of motion pictures. I thought the film was beautifully photographed, I liked the music, and I thought some of the dialogue was very beautiful and emotional, particularly the monologues of Tesla and Edison. The acting was superb. And to me anyway it was evident that Tesla got the shaft big time. Except that's not the story. I found The Current War fascinating, and it made me want to learn more about all three men. One thing that's always been true - it's never the person who thinks of an invention or even invents something -- the star of the show is ALWAYS the person who commercializes it. To criticize a film because it's not what you think it should be about, frankly, is ridiculous. Even more ridiculous - people who get their history from movies instead of using them as steppingstones to learn more about the actual story. Elisha Gray invented the telephone. So did Antonio Meucci. So did Johann Philipp Reis. While we're at it, why don't we do a film about Joseph Swan and John Wellington Starr and their work on the lightbulb before Edison. They probably all deserve movies, but they don't belong in this film, which is the story of Westinghouse versus Edison.
