This Aussie romp about inept murder-brothers (played by Angus Sampson and Damon Herriman) exemplifies what a horror-comedy should be. The quips are laugh-out-loud worthy, the physical humour is never absurd or bad enough to take you out of the moment, the premise is original enough, the reference humour is played well and doesn't get in your face (which I truly appreciate, and makes for the much better laugh), it's just haphazard enough to feel roller-coaster-y without feeling disjointed, from a formulaic standpoint it stands heads and shoulders above most other films of the genre. Unfortunately, this is about all that 100 Bloody Acres can really say for itself. It's true there's virtually nothing bad about it, but nothing stands out about beyond this either. It's a solid film, a recommendable one even, but there's no real staying factor here, and I fear its value will slip with the passing of time, which is unfortunate for such a rare bit of perfectly-toeing-the-line horror/comedy. 68% -Gimly

I ran across this movie while looking up information on the actor Angus Sampson, after my girlfriend and I finished the second season of Fargo. I was impressed with his serious and somewhat viciously silent Bear Gerhart, and wanted to look up a couple of his other film. I wasn't disappointed with '100 Bloody Acres, and is a great addition to the dark-comedy genre. The real gem in this film is the comedy duo of Reg and Lindsay Morgan; two bumbling bogan brothers who run their own fertilizer business in rural Australia. Damon Herriman plays the younger of the two (Reg) who only lives to impress his brother played by Angus Sampson. They have a strange relationship to say the least (some odd kissing scenes going on there too), but you definitely get the feeling that something is completely messed up with these guys from the get go. They play off each others' dialogue, action and mistakes so well, that it's easy to believe they're siblings just trying to make ends meet, but are so mental that they both suffer from the same disorder: severe stupidity. Sure the movie is fairly predictable throughout, and there is some absolutely terrible acting from the main trio who end up in trouble, but events unfold and there are some very funny and gross moments in this film. I credit Cameron and Colin Cairnes with some excellent comedic writing, and some pretty funny dialogue. Direction wise it's a short and sweet little film without too much going on. It's a very A to B plot line, and they didn't bother with any useless plot twists. The jokes are well timed, but few and far in between which resulted in a few dead scenes that were absolutely bothersome to get through. By the end of the film, they were definitely focusing on the dark and gory side of things. If you enjoy a twisted comedy then I would recommend this one. 5/10

This was a very enjoyable low budget, black comedy about two brothers with a fertilizer company, who find an innovative way to increase the potassium level of their product. This type of thing has been done before (Motel Hell, Blood Diner, The Undertaker and His Pals, etc...), but this flick kept things moving with a lot of quirky characters and funny lines that kept it flowing right to the end. When Australian movies have a hip sense of humor like this one had, they make for a great viewing experience, but there really aren't that many that I've encountered that are particularly funny. The performance of the brothers, the cop, and the old lady with her Corgi were the comic highlights of the film. I don't know if the songs on the radio that were played almost continually throughout the film were written especially for the movie, but they were hilarious also. The only part that seemed a little overdone was the boyfriend's jealousy as he was about to be ground up into fertilizer. It was funny for a few minutes, but they extended it for a bit too long.

You find out your girlfriend has been cheating on you. You start quizzing her about it. You want not only number of times but when, where, what specific acts did they perform, everything. Your obsession with it is so intense that you start to sound a little bit not right in the head. You just won't let it go. Now, imagine this conversation takes place while you and your girlfriend are both bound and bloody, and waiting for a couple of maniacs to grind you up into human fertilizer in a giant meat-grinder. That's how crazy this movie is. I especially loved the Aussie country music, which is every bit as goofy as you'd expect. I have no proof of this, but I suspect the movie was inspired by an Ambrose Bierce story called "Oil of Dog."

This Australian horror movie is directed and written by brothers Cameron and Colin Cairnes. Quirky, funny and bloody. Brothers Reg(Damon Herriman)and Lindsay(Angus Sampson)Brown own and operate an organic fertilizer company and are running a bit behind on orders due to the lack of their "special ingredient"...road kill. As Reg is running the roads in search of well, you know...three friends James, Sophie and Wesley encounter car trouble on their way to a much anticipated music festival. The agitated trio have no idea what is in store for them, when Reg rescues them with perverse intentions. It is not hard to convince Lindsay to fire up the grinder, when Reg arrives with fresh stock to complete the current run of fertilizer. Besides being funny, there are enough moments that will have you cringing, flinching and possibly gagging. Laughter and splatter in the right proportions makes for an enjoyable flick...no matter how sick of mind you are. How can the compost business get any more interesting? This horror film is a hoot! Rounding out the cast: Anna McGahan, Oliver Ackland, James Kristian, John Jarratt and Paul Blackwell.

As the reviews were between 8-10 and obviously positive , I kept on giving this movie 'another five minutes ' . But nothing much changed. It didn't get any better , This movie was very slow .If had been any slower it would have ground to a halt . It was also very , very boring . The directing was poor. The set was very basic . It was basically a barn , woods , a couple of trucks , a car and house ....ooh and a radio ! Low budget movies can be good if the acting is superb . But I think the casting director had picked up some homeless people and stuck them in this movie to act in exchange for s few dollars . ( No disrespect to homeless people , they did an okay job considering they'd never acted before :D ) It wasn't a comedy and it wasn't a horror . Heck , I wouldn't even call it a movie ! It was just a bunch of people , wandering aimlessly around and mumbling out some words . What amazes me about this movie is how it good reviews .

ONLY 4 users IMDb for a great indie from down under. Wow, I can't believe that. This film is fantastic and as far as comedy horror is concerned, one of the best. You can rank this one right up there with Society, Sleepaway Camp 2, Some guy who kills people and the very underrated Chopped. Down under have really given us some great celluloid over the last 5 years or so and this film is no exception. The acting is the best I've seen for this kind of film and the special effects are great. 100 bloody acres is a cross between Lunchmeat/TCM and just about any roady horror film of the last 10 years or so but what I loved about this film was it didn't stop being fun. You actually like the characters and speaking of characters Ms. McGahan you are absolutely gorgeous......

100 Bloody Acres was pretty bloody awful. The acting was good, but when the screenplay is this bad you really have to feel sorry for the actors for doing such a commendable job with such a weak script. Horribly unfunny. What little humor there was in this movie was of the situational variety, which works well in a TV sitcom if the jokes and acting back it up. In this film the acting was good, but thats it. There was nothing funny about it at all. It was a poor attempt to cash in on the success of Shaun of the Dead, without that movie's charm and charisma and .. most importantly .. actual humor. A couple of gross out moments tried to save it, but really? A * scene and a maternal incest scene? What were they going for? Australian Pie? Just poor taste and unfunny. This movie sucked.

100 BLOODY ACRES is something of a mixed bag when it comes to horror film-making. To begin with, it's an entirely derivative piece of work, which begins with the usual hitchhiking twentysomethings hitching a lift with the wrong person and soon coming to regret it. The shadow of WOLF CREEK and its ilk hangs heavy over this torture-themed film and once the cheesy bloodshed begins, it's all rather silly. But some of the silliness is intentional. 100 BLOODY ACRES is posited as a black comedy so the laughs here are largely intentional. The problem with this set-up is the viewer needs to have the same sense of humour as the writers and that's not always the case here as sometimes the humour feels forced and laborious. The main villain of the piece is an annoyance rather than imposing or amusing although the supporting cast members are pretty decent and make for likable victims. The set-up tends to be better than the pay-off and it all becomes a bit aimless in the second half, throwing in gross-out gags and random gore rather than telling much of a real story. WOLF CREEK it isn't (despite the John Jarratt cameo).

Australian horror-comedy, 100 Bloody Acres starts off promising enough, but falls flat quickly as it falls into the trap of recycling past material. The film fails at both being a comedy and a horror; being cheap, tacky and clichéd, this film doesn't reach any height that a toddler couldn't. Quite a boring expedition into the 'Wild Australian Outback' with this mock of a Wolf Creek like killer. This film adds nothing new to the genres, whilst also being completely unoriginal in it's approach. Do yourself a favor and skip this film, as I'm sure you can find a better one with the same story.
