Expertly shot, this movie will keep you guessing the whole time and thinking about it for a quite a while afterwards . Far from a typical thriller with a predictable ending, this movie features a very relatable storyline. Withdrawal can be a mind bending journey, difficult to distinguish the tricks your mind is playing on you from what is really going on and that is captured here in spades. The dynamic between the characters is tense and that easily felt through the screen. The setting of the film could not have been better, it added an extra layer of spookiness and seclusion. Definitely recommended.

Filmmaker Dennis (director and writer Scott Friend) and figure skater Mia (Madeleine Morgenweck) are trying to enjoy a healing weekend when Dennis' brother Roger (Will Brill) shows up and takes them on a hallucinatory journey that won't end well for anyone. I really can't do justice to the elaborate push and pull between Dennis and Mia that happens in this movie and how their past comes slowly to light. There are so many things that have happened between them; addiction, a lost child and promises that have been broken. At this point, an accident skating has cost Mia her ability to stand on one foot. The relationship with Dennis may have taken even more. Mia thinks that Roger could save their relationship. Dennis believes that his brother just wants to ruin his life. Yet David is also detoxing from a lifetime of drug use, so he is not a reliable narrator in any way. He has waking nightmares. And Roger isn't to be trusted either. Oh yeah - there's also a monk who keeps appearing in the woods. This is a quick film, a deep one and a movie that does more with three characters than most movies do with a cast of thousands.

Not your average cabin in the woods thriller or suspense! To The Moon is a quietly searing portrayal of broken relationships and how individuals choose to mend them. When an unexpected visitor arrives on a couples getaway attempt to revive their bond, the uncertainty unravels. The characters are well developed, the pacing is engaging, while the story keeps you at arms length from where the story is actually heading. The acting from the three leads is fantastic and each of them keeps you on edge with each scene, unsure who you can actually trust. Watch this with the lights off and your popcorn close because you'll devour it all with eagerness for more.

A refreshing and solid debut effort. I first saw Will Brill in The OA playing Scott Brown and he was great in To the Moon as Roger. I'd like to see more from Scott Friend. I have a Movies I've Seen list: every new one I see and everything I can remember having seen, many of which are thrown in as they come back to me. I also have a ton of lists that break things down into pseudo-categories, depending on what you might be in the mood for. Comedy Horror, Unexplained Phenomena, Error on the High Seas, Totally Bonkers, Burning Slowly, Chicks Kicking Ass, Cult/Occult and much more. User/ur6041809/lists.
