Let's be honest, most of us (blokes especially) have watched or been curious about * at least once (or many times). I remember seeing this documentary film, or one or two of the others in the series, listed on Netflix, and I was interested to watch it, especially seeing adult stars I may recognise. Basically, the film explores what happens to the actresses and actors who have been in the adult industry, how and why they got into it, their experiences after leaving the industry, and whether it is possible to live a normal life following their exposure (fame, being *, having sex onscreen, and everything else). Interviewed and sharing their experiences before, during and after being in * are: Brittany Andrews, Chasey Lain, Darren James, Georgina Spelvin, Janine Lindemulder, Johnnie Keyes, Lisa Ann and Tabitha Stevens. It also includes short interviews from current pornographic stars, including: Ariana Marie, Ashley Adams, Aubrey Gold, Danny D, Donny Sins, Ginger Lynn and Jenevieve Hexxx. Most of the stars left the industry to concentrate on a marriage or having children, turning to religion or politics (especially campaigning about the negative aspects of the industry), or just wanting to find themselves and do other things. All the stars talk about the positive aspects of the industry, from the fame (hanging out with other adult stars and celebrities), the fortune, and the experiences (sexual or not), including the changes that came in each decade (from softcore to hardcore magazines, cinema screenings, home video, the internet, and attitudes towards body types, ethnicities, tattoos, etc). They are also open about the negative things that come with being in *, including negative press, troubles with personal and public relationships, friendships, health problems, finding other employment, and knowing that whatever they do next, they cannot fully escape their past. You may be fascinated if you recognise the former adult stars talking about themselves, and even if you don't, this is a part of the multi-million business that perhaps not thought of as much, and it makes for some interesting stories. There are obviously parts of the film that will cause distress when they discuss the bad things that can happen going into an industry built around being naked and having sex onscreen, but it gives you a good insight into the people behind the flesh you have seen on video and on the internet, a reasonable documentary. Worth watching!

This is not the usual documentary built up to show the moral disaster of the * industry. But the good ends here. This is not really a documentary. It is just a series of interviews stitched together. There is no story, only a few slides put at the end with a mock follow-up.

This series exposed * for what it is, a soul sucking industry. When you have talent blaming the world for living in a van, when they made millions of dollars, it's clear the issue is low intelligence combined with zero money managing skills. Any contract star or super talent in the industry should be able to make money, save money and retire. A friend of mine danced for 4 summers and in each summer, she earned enough to pay tuition, rent on her apartment and have all the cash she needed to entertain herself. This was the 90's and I remember her telling me, I make almost $1,000 per night, and I'm a clean dancer, the girls that are dirty make 2-3 times as much. What I find most funny about this series is 90% of the talent profiled end up back in the business. I am going to assume that is based on maintaining a lifestyle, but for some it could also be to maintain ego. Either way at the end of the day it reveals the "Problem with Pretty". Just because someone cleans up and looks sexy with * hair and * makeup, doesn't make them smart. Listening to some of these women speak, you are left with the impression they are high school dropouts. Porn is the biggest collection of idiots, the industry generates billions, but production companies fold, and no one has anything to show for it. Leads me to believe the entire business is fueled by drugs.

After Porn Ends 2 (2017) *** (out of 4) This documentary is basically a continuation of the first film and has a new line of retired and somewhat retired * stars talking about what they did after leaving the business. You've got classic stars like Georgina Spelvin, Ginger Lynn and Johnnie Keyes as well as more recent people like Lisa Ann, Brittany Adams, Tabitha Stevens and Chasey Lain. You've also got Darren James telling his story, which involves him getting HIV and bringing it into the business. For the most part this here is an entertaining film but it falls well short of the original. I think the biggest problem is that a lot of the stories being told here were told in the first one so there's really nothing new or fresh here. Another problem is that it seems a lot of the people here are too new to have much of a career after the business. It seems these folks like to brag about what they're currently doing but not too much of this is overly interesting. The highlight of the film is without question the interview with Keyes who talks about his carer and he's as funny as ever. He also breaks down in tears when it comes to talking about his childhood. Spelvin and Lynn are also very good in their stories. Another interesting discussion deals with escorts and how a lot of the new * performers are making a name for themselves so that they can break away and become escorts. The fact that there aren't any real "stars" in * today is also talked about. If you're a fan of the genre then there are enough good stories to make this worth watching but it's certainly a step down from the original.

I'll be honest; I'm not the sort for documentaries and even less so for gushing about them afterwards... However, this film is one of the funniest, saddest and most touching things I have ever seen. It really shows how a disseperate group of people were affected by thier time in the adult industry. It is really worth a watch because it is interesting and well shot.

The follow-up to "After Porn Ends" might be better titled "Retired Porn Stars Briefly Reminisce." It's not quite as catchy as "After Porn Ends 2," but it's more accurate. As with the first one, director Bryce Wagoner points his camera at a sampling of retired and semi-retired * stars from the '70s, '80s, '90s and '00s and lets them tell their stories, most of which are brief and not terribly illuminating. A majority of the subjects fall into two camps: Thanks to *, my life is GREAT! (Lisa Ann, Brittany Adams, Tabitha Stevens); and: So I made f--- films. What's it to you? (Georgina Spelvin, Ginger Lynn, Johnnie Keyes). Darren James, whose HIV diagnosis shut down (straight) * production in 2004, has a story that's at once cautionary and inspirational. Chasey Lain, sounding and looking spent, does little more than gripe about the pay split at the Bunny Ranch. The saddest of the bunch is Janine Lindemulder, now living with her mother (or so it's implied), battling depression after a stint in prison for income tax evasion and losing custody of her daughter, and sporting more tattoos than a member of the Yakuza. If Wagoner's first documentary didn't fully penetrate its subjects, "After Porn Ends 2" doesn't even get skin deep, with much of the documentary playing like a series of "Where Are They Now?" segments on "Entertainment Tonight." Spelvin has offered more insight to the * business in the interviews she gave for 2005's "Inside Deep Throat," and Lynn (a.k.a. Ginger Lynn Allen), now an abstract painter, would've been better served by an update of her E! "True Hollywood Story" episode. Lisa Ann--who should really consider switching to decaf-- and Adams seem more more into self-promotion than self-reflection. Keyes, now a jazz musician, actually breaks down when recalling his abusive father, but diminishes the poignancy of that moment by making it clear he doesn't have a high opinion of women. Most frustrating is the segment on Lain, who talks about having interests outside of *, but never revealing what those interests are. Her demeanor also suggests she's gone through some rough patches, but like her other interests, those are kept close to Lain's chest. A few stray observations are made about racism and misogyny in the industry. Lisa Ann says she was told to avoid interracial scenes because they would hurt her career, advice that she ignored once she was no longer under contract. "All the company owners are secretly racist," she says. The only person to bring up sexism in the industry is a man, Herschel Savage, who says that with the exception of the performers, men in the * business don't really like women. The women interviewed don't weigh in, preferring to talk about anal sex than sexist a- holes. Peppered throughout this documentary are brief interviews with current * stars. Though some appear to understand that performing sex on camera means that later they'll either have to go into business for themselves or, at the very least, move to behind the scene roles in the industry, there are a couple who naively think that they can move on to mainstream careers without their * pasts following them. Someone should check back with them in a few years to see how that goes. That someone, however, should not be Bryce Wagoner.

I just read, that someone was not satisfied (no pun intended) with the selection of the retired * stars chosen for this sequel documentary (I don't think there are many sequels to documentaries, although there is Inconvinient Truth part 2 too, so ...). But this is about getting to know what people go through, and there is actually one interesting part that has to do with protection being used and why * stars may have a point in not using them. There's also one particular star that you may not agree with, but the stories are interesting enough. And as with the first one, we do get an ending bit with more "recent" information on their lives and what they've been up to since the interviews had been conducted. But in the movie itself, this time around, you also get people who are in the business right now and their outlook on what they see in their future. Let's see if they add anything to the third one (nudity and more obviously included in this, but no explicit stuff)
