Gümüş is a Turkish series telling the best love story I've ever watched. In Turkey it's described as a Yeşilçam (Film Center of Turkey ) Classic for its love story and out of Turkey it's described as ''Cinderella Story''. This series tells a great and real love between a poor and a very beautiful young girl from a country and a very rich and a powerful man. One day Gümüş receives a phone telling her she would be a wife of Mehmet, the grandson of Mehmet Fikri Şadoğlu who wants Mehmet to marry Gümüş. Gümüş gets very happy, because she would be a wife of a man whom she loved since her childhood. But the events don't go on as they must be. Because, there's a problem that Mehmet is in bad sorts because of having guilty conscience. Mehmet feels guilty conscience of causing the accident which his ex-girlfriend had died with his unborn baby and especially feels bad for his unborn baby. And, although he admires Gümüş's beauty when he first sees her photo which his grandfather gives before the marriage and accepts to marry her eagerly, but then the events progress in line with misunderstandings of each other. Mehmet who had many girl friends but didn't love anybody in real and who didn't want to marry any girl before, thinks she married him because of feeling bad for him and because of his grandfather's request. His grandfather was very important to her because of his big helps while growing up after she had lost her family. So, although the two of them like each other, they don't talk to each other for a while. But then while Gümüş tries to talk to him and while he tries to understand her, love between them starts to show itself. And day by day while their relationship grows stronger new problems appear to test their great and real love. Because the slogan of the series is; ''No love which is not tested is a real love.''. So in line with that slogan everyday, their love gets tested by new problems and difficulties. First, the difficulties are by Mehmet's mother, and then two women who love Mehmet and a man who loves Gümüş and the other men making Mehmet very jealous of Gümüş and the biggest one is misunderstanding each other. And one of the problems is the appearance of Mehmet's ex-girlfriend with his son who were known as death at the accident which caused Mehmet to feel bad because of guilty conscience. Of course, there's no problem with Mehmet who already didn't love her in real before, and who just cared for his son now. But there's problem with Gümüş that she misunderstands Mehmet again and wants to leave him to his son and his son's mother. But their great real love beats everything again. Also, by the power of their great love; the two of them changes of course. Mehmet becomes a very different man by the great love which he feels for Gümüş and Gümüş develops herself for her husband. So, it's the best love story I've ever watched telling a great real love of Gümüş&Mehmet from the beginning, the first sight to the end beating all the problems and difficulties coming in front of them. Also, a great real love story telling the changing of the two of them for each other by the power of love, the changing which they never did for anybody before but just they did for each other. The great real love story of Gümüş&Mehmet, the great real love which is hidden at first sight and appearing after a while and the beating every obstacle from the beginning to the end.

I grew up watching Spanish soap operas, and not really understanding what was going on since I am not a Spanish speaker. When Gumus was dubbed into Arabic and became Nur, and was broadcast on the Arab satellite stations, I began watching, not expecting too much. The show starts off as previously described, with Muhanned who has lost the will to keep going to to the death of his girlfriend who was carrying his child. In order to save him from his self-destructive ways, his family engages in an old-fashioned arranged marriage despite his objections. What is different about this soap opera from so many others is the fact that it builds the relationship between the two gradually, and you actually begin to believe that they do care for each other. The chemistry between Nur and Muhanned is great, and Muhanned's mother is the perfect evil mother-in-law (although her acting is laughable). It does get a bit tedious with various strains on their marriage are repeated over and over, but all in all, for a soap opera, it was surprisingly moving, and the beautiful locations in and around Istanbul, and the eye candy helped keep my interest. Definitely worth watching if you understand Turkish or Arabic.

This's one of the most popular shows ever in Arab countries, and I'd say it has an argument for #1, it started a new trend of dubbed Turkish shows in the region. It was strange seeing this show's Unprecedented success among a lot of competition from Arabic and American shows. For me I was one of the few that didn't actually watched it, it gave some corny vibes (well it's a soap opera), but it's generational cultural impact was a sight to behold.

"Gümüş," a Turkish melodrama originally broadcast in Turkey by Kanal D from 2005-2007, followed the travails of a beautiful young woman who marries into a wealthy family. MBC, the Arab world's leading free-to-air TV net, dubbed it into Arabic using a colloquial Syrian dialect rather than formal, classical Arabic, made the Turkish sudser "Nour," a pop-culture phenomenon when it aired across the Arab world last year. The show's final episode attracted a record 85 million Arab viewers when it aired last Aug. 30. The success of "Nour" for MBC has sparked a boom in dubbed Turkish dramas across many leading Arab sat-casters.

Loved it , must see, would see over and over. Kivanc did amazing job express how what true love is.

This show is half good and half bad. Gumus or Noor (in arabic) is a rare kind of show that drags you to watch it even if you don't want to; even though i don't like Noor that much and tried to avoid it while it's airings on MBC4, I just couldn't. It must be a force of nature. The romance between Noor and Muhannad was good at the first episodes but it started to get really annoying afterwards. The show started going downhill starting from the episode when Noor went to jail. I think that writers of Noor could've made the episodes a lot better and especially when Noor went to jail. If it was for a Mexican show like 'Maria La Del Barrio', the jail would be a place for torture and catfights between women. While the jail Noor went to had very hospitable people which was really annoying. From the things I liked about this show is the classie sound effect that was included.

This series, which aired as "Noor" in Arab countries, essentially revolutionized Arab language television. That having been said, however, it's somewhat difficult to understand the series' appeal. The cast is charismatic, but it's hardly their best work. Kivanç Tatlitug (Mohannad in the Arabic version) doesn't have much more to do but smirk and be blond, and Songül Öden tries hard but the writers seem to confuse Noor/Gumus's learning to use a straightening iron for her hair with actual character development ("You've changed," Mohannad bemoans in one scene, despite the fact that the only noticeable change is better hair and fashion sense). The characters plights are so utterly disconnected from reality it is difficult to sympathize with any of them, especially since they elevate self-absorption to an art form. Possibly the only realistic element of the series is also its most tedious - the characterize seem to argue over the same issues, repeatedly. Personally, I found the series to be a bit like a meringue cookie - sugary, attractive and glossy, but extremely fluffy. Still, lots of people loved the series - so who am I to judge?
