There have been many films were the main characters have to stop a terrorist attack before its too late. This film does share many elemets with others but I found this pretty entertaining and kept on the edge of my seat wondering if they would make it. The combination of george clooney and nicole kidman is great and nice to see them two together in a film. The plot was decent and it did make me feel for the characters.

The Peacemaker is a critical reminder that nothing's quite as dynamic as fully bloomed, gung ho, widescreen descent into possible worldwide destruction.

The terrorist-take-over-the-world plots have practically become a genre upon itself. George Clooney and Nicole Kidman go to the extreme as a pair of government agents trying to stop terrorists who have stole nuclear warheads and threatening to blast the hell out of the free world. "The Peacemaker" is a great flick, with breakneck chase sequences, cool fight scenes, and a good chemistry between Clooney and Kidman, with Nicole being her usual cool-as-ice dame, and Clooney doing his best Jack Ryan impersonation.

Great action film. Good story line, credible within its own frame of reference. It might be 25 years old but could easily be a current Mission Impossible piece (Fallout was saving the world from rogue nukes, but Peacemaker has a more credible, politically relevant and interesting plot line). Can't understand why this film gets such a low rating on IMDb.

A devastating nuclear explosion in Russia creates panic among prominent American figures in Washington, D.C. Inexperienced nuclear weapons expert Kidman is summoned to help resolve the crisis; when several other warheads go missing, she enlists the aid of headstrong Army intelligence officer Clooney, and they stumble upon the scheme of a terrorist with no demands. Lots of gimmicky action scenes/stunts, but it never peaks in its level of excitement or suspense, and the story gets more confusing as it goes along. Overall just another run-of-the-mill action flick, though it does liven up near the finale. **

Although the plot could be less complex and still work, this was an impressive major film debut for Mimi Leder, now one of my favorite directors. What ultimately sold me on it was that it avoids the typical cliches of instant romance between main characters, plus its technical accuracy. Also, even the villain is human and easy to empathize with. Not perfect, but much better than most... Almost up to the standard Leder set with 1998's Deep Impact.

Way before the 9/11 incident, this gives us a typical Hollywood movie with stars that were quite on the rise when this was made. Clooney had the (not well received) Batman movie coming out the same year. Now this is quite "edge of your seat" material with a lot of cliches aboard. Now certain things might not have been done the same way after the Twin Towers went down. But it's hard to think of what Filmmakers would have done or not otherwise. Then again some might think this doesn't go far enough. What I'm trying to say here is this: It is tough to watch this without thinking of a certain kind of terrorism. If you can, this can be just light entertainment
